Terms and Conditions

Effective September 2026

These terms govern bookings made through 4Drive Korea. By completing a reservation on our platform, you accept these conditions in full. Please read carefully before proceeding with your booking.

Scope

4Drive Korea operates as a booking platform connecting customers with local vehicle rental operators in Jeju and other locations across South Korea. We facilitate reservations and process advance payments on behalf of these operators. The actual rental agreement is a separate contract between you and the specific rental company supplying your vehicle, executed at the point of collection.

Our role is limited to booking administration. The rental operator remains responsible for vehicle provision, maintenance, roadside assistance, and all operational aspects of your hire period. Their contact details and specific terms appear in your booking voucher.

Bookings and the Rental Agreement

When you complete a reservation through our website, you receive a booking voucher by email. This voucher is not the rental agreement itself. The binding rental contract is signed when you collect the vehicle from the operator's counter, airport terminal desk, or designated delivery point.

The rental agreement you sign at collection sets out the operator's terms, including permitted use, mileage limits if applicable, fuel policy, extension procedures, and return conditions. Any damage to the vehicle must be recorded in this agreement at the time you take possession. The operator's staff will conduct an inspection with you and note existing marks, scratches, or defects in the contract documentation.

Conditions vary between operators and specific vehicles. Your voucher states which company will supply your vehicle and summarises key points, but the signed agreement at collection is the authoritative document.

Advance Payment and Balance

At the time of booking, you pay an advance by credit or debit card through our secure online payment system. This advance is non-refundable outside the cancellation terms detailed below. We do not accept cash payments online.

The remaining balance is due when you collect the vehicle. Payment methods for the balance depend on the specific vehicle you have booked and are clearly stated during the reservation process and on your voucher. Options include debit card, cash, or credit card, as specified by the operator.

If your debit card has a spending limit, we recommend contacting your bank to arrange a temporary increase before travel, as some operators may require card authorisation for both the balance and any deposit hold.

Deposit Conditions

Most rentals require a security deposit, held as a temporary authorisation or block on a payment card. The deposit amount and accepted card types depend on the individual vehicle you book, not on vehicle class or category. These details are shown during booking and confirmed in your voucher.

The deposit is separate from any insurance excess or damage waiver. It serves as security for the rental period and is released by the operator after you return the vehicle in satisfactory condition, typically within 7-14 days depending on the card issuer. We do not hold or process deposits ourselves.

Some vehicles offered through our platform are available with no deposit requirement. This does not alter insurance coverage or excess amounts, which remain as stated in the rental terms.

Drivers and Documents

The person named as the main driver on the booking must present a valid driving licence at collection, along with an International Driving Permit when using a foreign licence. Both documents must be valid for the entire rental period.

Additional drivers can be added at collection for a fee set by the rental operator. Each additional driver must meet the same documentation requirements and be present to sign the rental agreement. Age and experience restrictions apply and vary by operator.

You are responsible for ensuring all drivers meet the operator's eligibility criteria. Failure to provide correct documents at collection may result in the operator refusing to release the vehicle, with no refund of the advance payment.

Use of the Vehicle

Vehicles must be driven in accordance with South Korean traffic law and the rental operator's terms. Jeju Island operates right-hand traffic. Urban speed limits are 50-60 km/h, rural roads 60-80 km/h. There are no expressways or toll roads on the island.

Jeju's island location means there are no land border crossings. Taking the vehicle on ferries to the mainland or other islands, including Udo Island, requires advance written approval from the rental operator. Unauthorised ferry transport may void insurance coverage. Ferry booking services for Udo Island side trips are available as a paid add-on during the reservation process.

Off-road driving is generally prohibited unless the vehicle specification and rental agreement explicitly permit it. Route 1132 forms a coastal loop of approximately 180 km around Jeju. Seongsan Ilchulbong lies 40 km east of Jeju city, Hallasan National Park trailheads 25-30 km south, Manjanggul lava tube 30 km northeast, and Jungmun resort area 35 km southwest via paved public roads.

Changes and Cancellation

If you need to modify your booking dates, pick-up location, or vehicle type, contact us at [email protected] as soon as possible. Changes are subject to availability and may incur a fee. Price differences for alternative vehicles or dates will apply.

Cancellations must be notified in writing by email. Refund eligibility and any cancellation charges depend on how far in advance you cancel, as detailed in the cancellation policy provided during booking. The advance payment is non-refundable for cancellations made within the specified notice period.

Failure to collect the vehicle at the agreed time without prior notice is treated as a no-show, resulting in forfeiture of all payments with no refund.

Liability

4Drive Korea acts solely as a booking booking service. We are not liable for the condition, performance, or suitability of vehicles supplied by rental operators, nor for any delays, breakdowns, accidents, or losses incurred during your rental period.

The rental operator is responsible for vehicle maintenance, roadside assistance, and insurance provision as specified in your rental agreement. Any claims arising from vehicle defects, accidents, or operator conduct must be directed to the supplying company in the first instance.

We do not accept liability for Force Majeure events, including but not limited to typhoons (which affect Jeju from August to September), volcanic activity, natural disasters, government travel restrictions, or other circumstances beyond our reasonable control.

Complaints

If you experience issues during your rental, contact the operator immediately using the phone number or email provided in your voucher. They are best placed to resolve operational matters in real time.

For complaints about the booking process, payment handling, or voucher accuracy, email us at [email protected]. Include your booking reference and a clear description of the problem. We aim to respond within three business days.

Our office is located in Yeon-dong, Jeju, South Korea. We operate Monday to Sunday, 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM (GMT+9). We will investigate your complaint and liaise with the relevant operator where necessary, but we cannot override the operator's terms or compel them to provide remedies outside their own policies.

Governing Law

These terms and conditions are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea. Any disputes arising from bookings made through 4Drive Korea fall under the jurisdiction of Korean courts.

The rental agreement you sign with the operator at collection is also subject to Korean law. Vehicle operation on Jeju Island and throughout South Korea must comply with national and local traffic regulations enforced by Korean authorities.
